PET is a milky white or pre yellow highly crystalline polymer with a smooth and shiny surface. Good creep resistance, fatigue resistance, friction resistance, and dimensional stability, with low wear and high hardness, possessing the maximum toughness among thermoplastic materials; Good electrical insulation performance, less affected by temperature, but poor corona resistance. Non toxic, weather resistant, stable against chemicals, low water absorption, resistant to weak acids and organic solvents, but not resistant to hot water immersion or alkali.
PET resin has a high glass transition temperature, slow crystallization rate, long molding cycle, long molding cycle, high molding shrinkage rate, poor dimensional stability, brittle crystallization molding, and low heat resistance.
Through the improvement of nucleating agents, crystallization agents, and glass fiber reinforcement, PET not only possesses the properties of PBT, but also has the following characteristics:
1. The thermal deformation temperature and long-term use temperature are the highest among thermoplastic general engineering plastics;
2. Due to its high heat resistance, reinforced PET is immersed in a soldering bath at 250 ℃ for 10 seconds without deformation or discoloration, making it particularly suitable for preparing electronic and electrical parts for soldering;
3. The bending strength is 200MPa, the elastic modulus reaches 4000MPa, and the creep and fatigue resistance are also good. The surface hardness is high, and the mechanical properties are similar to those of thermosetting plastics;
4. Due to the fact that the price of ethylene glycol used in the production of PET is almost half cheaper than that of butanediol used in the production of PBT, PET resin and reinforced PET are the lowest priced engineering plastics with high cost-effectiveness.
2、 Application
PET is mainly used for fibers, with a small amount used for films and engineering plastics. PET fiber is mainly used in Textile manufacturing. PET film is mainly used for electrical insulation materials, such as capacitors, cable insulation, printed circuit wiring substrates, electrode slot insulation, etc. Another application area of PET film is film substrate and baseband, such as film, X-ray film, recording tape, electronic computer tape, etc. PET film is also used for vacuum aluminum transfer to make metallized films, such as gold and silver wires, micro capacitor films, etc. Another use of PET is in blow molded products, which are used for packaging polyester stretch bottles.
Glass fiber reinforced PET is applicable to the electronic, electrical and automotive industries, and is used for various coil frameworks, transformers, televisions, recorder parts and shells, automobile lamp holders, lampshades, incandescent lamp holders, relays, selenium rectifiers, etc. The current consumption proportion of PET engineering plastics in several application fields is: 26% for electrical and electronic products, 22% for automobiles, 19% for machinery, 10% for appliances, 10% for consumer goods, and 13% for others. At present, the total consumption of PET engineering plastics is not significant, accounting for only 1.6% of the total PET amount.
Forming and processing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
The molding process of PET can include injection molding, extrusion, blistering, high-frequency fusion welding, blow molding, coating, bonding, machining, electroplating, electroplating, vacuum metal plating, and printing.
